The Daughter of the Moon

- Her coming was foretold by the fine-tailed star
- Overhead Beltane night, ten sixty-six
- Her birthright, etched on her flesh, a crescent moon scar:
- A symbol of the magic called Bròn Seud by the Picts
- In the sky Beltane night, ten sixty-six,
- Embers of the bonefire soared.
- Triangular magic called Bròn Seud by the Picts
- She protects as she heads toward Normandy's shore
- Embers of the bonefire soar
- In her thoughts as she drifts far from home
- On the square-rigger headed for Normandy's shore
- She swallows her fear of the dark and unknown
- In her thoughts as she lands far from home
- Is a sight that shakes her to the core.
- She swallows her fear; William's ships on the Somme
- As the Duke prepares for a war.
- A sight that shakes her to the core:
- Five thousands knights, all thirsty for blood
- And the Duke will wage this war
- Taking with him the knight that she loves.
- Five thousands knights thirsty for blood
- Sailed for England that September night
- He goes, too, the knight that she loves
- And her magic's told her he will die
- They sail to England that September night
- She foresees death; William becomes king.
- Thought the magic's said her knight will die
- She believes she can change this one thing.
- And there was death, and William's now king.
- All England bends to his will.
- She believed she could change that one thing,
- But her love lies on the battlefield, still.
- All England bows to his will
- And her knight stands at the King's side
- Never knowing he laid on the battlefield - still
- That she brought him back after he died.
- Her knight stands at the King's side
- On Christmas Day, ten sixty-six
- She brought him back after he died
- With magic known as Bròn Seud to the Picts.
- It was the year ten sixty-six.
- A sorceress marked with a crescent moon scar
- Healed her love with the magic of the Picts;
- Her birthright, given by a fine-tailed star.
